Event frequently asked questions
Q: What is the proper etiquette on the trail?
A: Cascade Rovers is dedicated to the safety of all our members
and strictly prohibits the use of alcohol and/or drugs on the
trail. Anyone using a substance will be asked to leave immediately
and expelled from the club. We require safe and respectful
use of your vehicle at all times. No “Hot-dogging” that could
endanger yourself or others around you. You must stay on the
trail. Cutting new trails is not allowed. We follow the principles
of Tread Lightly. Both on and off the road, we travel with
our headlights on, a lead and tail vehicle and keep the truck
behind us in our rear-view mirror at all times. We use the
FRS (Family Radios) as our main form of communication. We always
warn the other drivers behind us when we need to stop, why
and of any obstacles they may encounter. Pack out what you
packed in - Do Not Litter! Respect wildlife - Stop and look
but never harass or approach.
Q: What is a recovery point
and why do I need two?
A: A recovery point is a frame mounted attachment point that
aids in vehicle extraction during recovery. Examples of this
are Jate Rings, Dixon Bate Jaws, Safety Tow Hooks, Bull bar style
bumpers, Bow Shackles, Receiver Bow Shackles, etc. The factory
lashing points on your truck are not a suitable recovery point
as they are not rated for the extreme G-forces an extraction
can create and could possibly fail leading to catastrophic results.
You must have two on your vehicle to attend off-road club events.
You need one on the front and one on the rear of your truck.
Any quality off-road outfitter should carry these recovery points.
See web links for some of our favorite suppliers.
Q: What is the required gear for any Cascade Rovers event/trip?
A: When attending any Cascade Rovers off-road or extended on-road
event you must have the following items in/on your truck at a
bare minimum:
1) First Aid Kit
2) Fire extinguisher
3) Recovery points front and rear
4) Enough food and water for you and your passengers for three
days.
5) Extra climate appropriate clothing including proper foot wear
(i.e. if its winter you should have waterproof boots and warm
water repellant outerwear/foul weather gear)
6) Inflated spare tire and tire changing tools/jack.
7) Extra oil, A/T fluid, Antifreeze/water, spares as needed,
etc
8) FRS radio
9) At least a 2”x20', minimum Working Load Limit (WLL) of 12,000lbs,
recovery strap and two 3/4" bow
shackles and good quality leather or synthetic gloves.
10) Sturdy shovel.
11) Plenty of patience and a positive attitude.
In addition to the above your truck needs to be in excellent
mechanical condition to the best of your knowledge.
*See recommended gear page for suggestions on these items.
Q: Are there any restrictions on vehicles attending Cascade
Rovers Events?
A: Yes. Your vehicle must be mechanically sound, completely
street legal, have current registration/plates/tabs, be currently
insured
and must be capable of doing the speed limit for the entire
route of the event. This does not apply to vehicles trailered
to car
shows, etc.
Q: May I bring a guest with me to an event?
A: Yes, you may bring guests to an event as long as you RSVP
them in advance; they ride with you in your truck and sign
a release form. Please see the join now section for a printable
release form. Exception to the rule would be - New member
candidates may RSVP to attend their first event free with their
own vehicle
(must be a Land Rover and must meet club requirements for
vehicles spelled out in the required gear FAQ above).
Q: Are there stops for lunch/bathroom breaks?
A: Yes. We try to find a good spot to stop and break for
lunch between 12:00 and 1:00PM. If you need to stop for
anything else just radio the rest of the group and we will
all stop
or wait
just up the trail for you.
Q: Are the trips mapped out ahead of time and specific
directions given?
A: Yes. Unless it's an informal or scouting run (a place
we haven't been before) specifics will be given out ahead
of time
in the
Events section of this web site.
